Most virtual assistants make anywhere from $15 to $35 an hour. And, they work on a short-term contractual basis. But, if you do well, this can easily turn into a long-term deal. That’s why you’ll see quite a bit of VAs earning between $1,000 to over $5,000 a month.

A pro tip here is to find the right employer for you. Just as importantly, choose one who’s looking for high-quality performance as opposed to one who’s trying to get the cheapest labor. The former are the ones willing to pay you thousands of dollars each month.

Virtual Bookkeeper

Are you organized and like to deal with numbers? If so, bookkeeping is a well-paying online job you might enjoy. You can make between $20 to $60 an hour doing so. And, it’s a fairly consistent side hustle since businesses need someone to keep their finances in order month in and month out.

A virtual bookkeeper helps businesses keep track of their “book”. This includes recording their revenues, payables, and expenses. You’ll also help send invoices and collect payments from clients, suppliers, or sponsors.

The best part about it is that you don’t need to be a CPA or be licensed in any way. This makes it easy for anyone to get started.

Transcriptionists make between $10 to $40 per hour. The difference between the higher and lower pay range comes from two things:

  • The kind of transcription you do. Medical and legal transcription are in higher demand because those fields need to transcribe a lot of information. In addition, you need to know the jargon to be able to make sense of some of the information.
  • The company you work for. Companies that hire a lot of transcribers tend to pay lower. For example, Scribie.com and TranscribeMe.com pay around $15 on average per audio hour. In contrast, companies that are pickier are harder to get in because you need more experience. But, they’re worth waiting for. For example, Rev.com pays around $30 per audio hour on average while GoTranscript.com is a little higher than that.

Are you a native English speaker who enjoys teaching kids? If so, then you’ll be able to make good money with VIPKID.

VIPKID is an online education site that focuses on teaching children in China English. So, they need people who know how to speak the language fluently and have some kind of teaching experience.

As a VIPKID teacher, you can earn anywhere from $500 to over $3,000 a month teaching English online a few anywhere from 1 to 3 hours a day. And, you get to make your own schedule.

But, in order to qualify as a VIPKID teacher, you do need to have a Bachelor’s degree (any major will do), some teaching experience (church school and tutoring are good enough) and you need to reside in the U.S or Canada.

Online Tutoring

If you don’t qualify for the VIPKID requirements or prefer to teach subjects other than English, you can likewise become an online tutor.

Tutoring is a great online job that pays very well. You can stand to make between $12 to $25 per hour depending on who you’re teaching and what subject your teaching.

In some cases, you’ll be able to find clients on your own. And, I know many former teachers who are successful online tutors who get more students by word of mouth.

But, there are also other places that hire online tutors. As mentioned, VIPKID is one example, paying between $14 to $22 per hour. Chegg is another option, with pay starting at $20 per hour.

Publish Your Own eBooks

You’ve probably read a few Kindle books before. But, did you know that you can make a very good living publishing your own eBooks? Thanks to Amazon Kindle publishing, creating and selling your own eBook is quite easy. The difficult part is marketing it and getting people to buy it.

If you’re able to successfully do this, then, you can stand to make as much as 70% of the price of each copy sold. Amazon takes the rest of the cut for providing you with a marketplace where its customers can find your book.
